Costa Rica’s unique success story in conservation is paying off big time particularly in the travel and film industry

Parallel to the establishment of private and public parks and nature reserves, infrastructure has also grown in lodging, roads and communications – but in a sustainable manner. For filmmakers this translates into accessible, tropical locations cross-country with the logistical support required.

Rainforests, beaches, waterfalls and volcanoes populate the exotic landscapes that today make Costa Rica one of the most important destinations in the world. Few countries can boast the network of eco-destinations that Costa Rica offers filmmakers.

Within this natural setting, Costa Rica has evolved and perfected the art of adventure, luxury and learning. Adventure sports abound in all corners of the country with world class surfing, ziplines, hanging bridges, rappelling, ATV vehicles, horseback riding and much more offering additional production value for commercials, photo shoots and reality television. Hospitality services continue to grow, particularly in the luxury category, offering a wide range of options that go from jungle lodges to 5-star beach and mountain resorts.

Few places in the tropics are so well documented since the magic of Costa Rica’s ecosystems has made it one of the world’s best open-air laboratories with hundreds of international universities that conduct ongoing research in many areas of tropical biology and ecosystems.

Costa Rica is also a regional film hub that is home to equipment and bilingual crew working across Central America. From Panama to Belize, traversing Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua, our team knows the charms and challenges of shooting across the extreme landscapes of this diamond in the rough. Producers of feature films, series, reality programming and commercials have all explored and filmed from the depths of the jungles to the peaks of volcanoes with our team’s support.

This experience has fostered the experienced, film-friendly culture of Costa Rica’s public and private sector. Two international airports have direct flights from many US and European cities with average flight time from the US being 5.5 hours. English is the second language and although Costa Rica is a tropical location, weather patterns invite you to film here all year around.
