The number one production choice for the world’s most exceptional creative talent
When it comes to servicing international production, the United Kingdom is one of the very best in the world, offering vibrant and versatile locations for international creatives seeking diverse filming opportunities, alongside flawless production services and some of the world’s best behind the scenes talent including crew, studios, and technical capabilities. Whether you’re looking for the perfect urban backdrop, picturesque countryside, or extraordinary studio space, the UK delivers it all.
Four nations in one
Known for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, the UK offers a mix of classic and modern settings that can transform any vision into reality. With 4 unique national and geographic identities in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland – the breadth of history and natural beauty on offer in the UK is quite simply breathtaking. From the historic streets of London to the magisterial landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, the country provides unmatched variety for film and photography projects. From Daniel Craig as James Bond set against the majesty of Glencoe, Alnwick Castle conjured the magic doubling for Hogwarts or the industrial towns of the north of England providing the backdrop for Tommy Shelby’s dastardly deeds in Peaky Blinders. What’s more all this variety is set on an island only 94,060 sq. miles in size, offering incredible diversity and value for money with quick unit moves and short distances between contrasting locations.
An island of endless location possibilities
With 35 UNESCO World Heritage sites, 15 National Parks, and nearly 8,000 miles of coastline, the UK is an island of outstanding natural beauty. From ancient forests awash with oak, pine, and beech trees, soaring mountain ranges, and evergreen rolling fields, it is a country of contrasts. Add into this the United Kingdom’s rich and extensive history, and the UK reads like an A-Z of major architectural styles, from Medieval, Gothic, Regency, Georgian, Tudor, Victorian, and Modernist. The UK is also a great international double for film locations beyond its borders. Filmmakers often call on London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Glasgow to replicate period and modern USA cities, as well as many other UK towns and cities lending a pan European aesthetic.
A vibrant cultural and sporting centre
A major global trendsetter, the UK has always been home to some of the world’s most exceptional creative talent. Home-grown players on the international music scene like Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, and Adele; iconic brands like Burberry, Aston Martin, and Vivienne Westwood crafting a distinctly British aesthetic in high fashion; or prestige TV shows such as Outlander, The Crown, and Peaky Blinders all showcasing very different period perspectives of the UK. Further to this, our capital city, London, is widely regarded as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world. It is a diverse hub for casting talent drawing a range of ethnicities and languages from across the globe, as well as the distinctive sounds of the home nations.
The UK is also a major hub for sporting excellence, with The English Premier League at the pinnacle of global football, teeming with renowned international players such as Erling Haaland, Mo Salah, Virgi van Dyk, and Bukayo Saka. The Northwest of England in particular is well set up to cater for sports based production with clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United on the doorstep, all locally supported by a network of studios and crew hubs to ensure brands like Vodafone, Nike, EA Sports, and more can access players quickly and effectively around training schedules for big budget productions.
A world- class production hub
World-class production facilities, well-established industry support, and state-of-the-art technology make the UK an appealing choice for creators across the globe. The country is also famous for its experienced crew, which includes some of the world’s most talented directors, cinematographers, and production professionals, and is reflective of the diversity of production work currently coming into the country.
All this is not confined to London. Major production centres are being developed in the North of England and Scotland. Add to this an ambitious plan to build a transatlantic and global pipeline of production work, the UK is currently very well placed to offer a depth of talent supported by cross regional crew bases across the country to service productions of all types.
The UK’s robust infrastructure provides easy access to international airport hubs, short distances between locations, and top-tier accommodation, ensures a seamless experience for shoots and significant cost savings. The UK government offers generous film tax incentives, making large-scale productions more affordable without compromising on quality.
